Jujutsu Kaisen Characters

Jujutsu Kaisen Characters Complete Guide to Every Major Hero, Villain & Their Powers

Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the defining anime and manga of its generation and its characters are the reason. From a pink-haired boy who swallowed a demon’s severed finger to the most powerful sorcerer alive, the cast of JJK represents some of the most carefully crafted, thematically rich, and genuinely heartbreaking character work in modern shonen. The manga concluded in September 2024 with Chapter 271, the anime’s Season 3 aired in 2025–2026, and the sequel manga Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo wrapped in March 2026 giving us a complete picture of where everyone ended up.

How the JJK World Works

In Jujutsu Kaisen’s world, cursed energy is generated by negative human emotions grief, anger, fear and flows naturally through nearly every living person without their knowledge. Most people cannot control or channel it. Jujutsu sorcerers can: they are people born with enough innate cursed energy to manipulate it, shape it into techniques, and use it to fight cursed spirits physical manifestations of accumulated negative emotion that prey on ordinary humans.

Three factions define the world’s structure:

  • Jujutsu Sorcerers — Trained at Tokyo Jujutsu High or Kyoto Jujutsu High, tasked with exorcising cursed spirits and protecting civilians
  • Curse Users — Humans who wield cursed energy but oppose the Jujutsu establishment, working with or for cursed spirits
  • Cursed Spirits — Born from human negative emotions; the antagonistic monsters ranging from minor threats to catastrophic Special Grade entities

Each sorcerer’s power is defined by their Innate Technique a unique cursed energy ability tied to their bloodline and potentially a Domain Expansion, an enclosed pocket of reality imbued with their technique that guarantees technique hits against anyone trapped inside.

If you want to see how these same techniques translate into gameplay, our Jujutsu Infinite tier list ranks every innate technique available in the Roblox game inspired by this series.

Main Characters Tokyo Jujutsu High Students

Yuji Itadori The Protagonist

Age: 15 | Grade: Ungraded → Special Grade | Technique: Black Flash / Divergent Fist | Voice (EN): Adam McArthur

Yuji is an ordinary high school student with extraordinary physical ability pulling a shotput like a baseball and running 50 meters in under three seconds. He swallows Ryomen Sukuna’s severed finger to protect his classmates from a cursed spirit attack, becomes Sukuna’s vessel, and is immediately enrolled in Tokyo Jujutsu High.

His grandfather’s dying words define his entire arc: use your strength to protect others, and die surrounded by people rather than alone. His core technique is Black Flash a microsecond-perfect strike that compresses cursed energy to 2.5 times normal power, achievable only in a flow state. His Divergent Fist delivers delayed cursed energy impact after physical contact.

Manga fate: Yuji survives. He was prophesied to be executed, but defeats Sukuna and continues living as a mentor to the next generation. In Modulo (set 68 years later), he has stopped aging due to consuming the Death Paintings physically immortal but not indestructible, outliving everyone he loved.

Megumi Fushiguro The Ten Shadows Sorcerer

Age: 15 | Grade: Grade 2 → Special Grade | Technique: Ten Shadows Technique | Voice (EN): Robbie Daymond

Megumi is the most tactically intelligent of the first-years analytical, reserved, and morally pragmatic. His Ten Shadows Technique summons divine shikigami through shadow. His most powerful shikigami, Mahoraga, adapts to any technique after being hit by it once, making it functionally unkillable in prolonged combat. Megumi is the only known sorcerer to have survived summoning it.

Sukuna coveted Megumi’s technique and ultimately possessed his body, turning Megumi into the vessel for the final arc’s true villain form.

Manga fate: Deliberately ambiguous the most discussed unresolved thread in the conclusion. The epilogue shows him visiting Tsumiki’s grave with some degree of emotional recovery.

Nobara Kugisaki The Straw Doll Sorcerer

Age: 16 | Grade: Grade 3 → Grade 2 | Technique: Straw Doll Technique | Voice (EN): Anne Yatco

Nobara is the third first-year at Tokyo Jujutsu High and the cast’s most consistent source of forward momentum. She is loudly confident, has no patience for self-pity (her own or anyone else’s), and fights with a hammer and iron nails combined with her Straw Doll Technique a cursed energy method that allows her to damage the original through a substitute, exploiting the soul connection between all organic material.

Her greatest moment is against Mahito the cursed spirit that manipulates souls where she uses Resonance to attack Mahito through Yuji (who shares a soul connection with Sukuna). It is one of the most creative and emotionally rich combat sequences in the series.

She was critically injured by Mahito during the Shibuya Incident, with half her face destroyed in a direct soul manipulation attack. The series kept her survival ambiguous for most of its second half. She survived. The manga’s epilogue shows Nobara wearing a patch over her left eye and resuming missions with Yuji and Megumi.

Satoru Gojo The Strongest

Age: 28 | Grade: Special Grade | Technique: Limitless + Six Eyes | Voice (EN): Kaiji Tang

The most beloved JJK character by any metric he received over 42% of total votes in an official popularity poll of 264,298 submissions. Gojo is the first person in 400 years born with both Limitless and the Six Eyes simultaneously.

Limitless gives him infinite spatial control: Lapse Blue creates an attractive compression; Reversal Red creates an explosive expansion; Hollow Purple combines both to erase everything in its path. His Infinity passive automatically slows anything approaching him to zero relative to his body. His Domain Expansion Unlimited Void drowns enemies in infinite simultaneous sensory input, immobilizing cognition entirely.

He was sealed inside the Prison Realm at the Shibuya Incident, unsealed later, and fought Sukuna in the Infinity Castle arc.

Manga fate: Gojo died fighting Sukuna the most polarizing moment in the series’ finale. In Modulo, 68 years later, he is remembered as a hero who stopped the Culling Game.

Ryomen Sukuna The King of Curses

Age: 1,000+ years | Grade: Special Grade (spirit) | Technique: Cleave / Dismantle / Malevolent Shrine

A demon sorcerer from the Heian era, so powerful that the jujutsu world could not kill him at his death. His curse fragmented into 20 fingers, preserved as Special Grade objects. Swallowed by Yuji, he inhabits the protagonist as a passenger.

Cleave adapts its cutting force precisely to what is required to kill the target. Dismantle strikes at a fixed power output. His Domain Expansion Malevolent Shrine is unique: rather than creating an enclosed space, it extends across a vast radius of the real world, automatically activating both cuts on everything within range.

His true final form uses Megumi Fushiguro’s Ten Shadows Technique after forcibly possessing him the act that makes Sukuna the series’ definitive final villain.

Key Supporting Characters

Kento Nanami — Grade 1 sorcerer, former corporate worker turned jujutsu veteran. His Ratio Technique strikes the 7:3 structural weak point of any object. The series’ moral bedrock: tired, practical, and deeply committed despite no illusions. His death during the Shibuya Incident is the arc’s most devastating human loss.

Toji Fushiguro — Megumi’s absent father. Born with zero cursed energy, his body compensates with superhuman physicality that exceeds sorcerers. The most effective argument that raw human capability can compete with Special Grade techniques.

Kenjaku — The series’ true orchestrator. An ancient curse user who survives centuries by transplanting his brain into bodies currently wearing Suguru Geto’s corpse. His Culling Game was designed to evolve humanity’s jujutsu potential. Killed by Takaba in one of the series’ most unexpected moments.

Yuta Okkotsu — Protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Arguably the second most powerful sorcerer alive after Gojo. Became Gojo family head and married Maki Zenin. Both deceased before Modulo‘s timeline.

Maki Zenin — Born with virtually no cursed energy, her Heavenly Restriction trades it for catastrophic physical enhancement. After the Sakurajima Colony arc, she becomes the series’ most purely powerful human combatant.

Suguru Geto — Gojo’s fallen best friend, whose Cursed Spirit Manipulation let him absorb and deploy spirits as weapons. His ideology that non-sorcerers are a burden represents the darkest endpoint of the jujutsu establishment’s corruption. His corpse is now Kenjaku’s vessel.

Cursed Spirits The Key Antagonists

Mahito — The most philosophically dangerous villain. His Idle Transfiguration manipulates souls directly, reshaping human bodies at will. His battles with Yuji who can damage him through their shared Sukuna soul connection are the series’ most charged confrontations.

Jogo, Hanami, and Dagon — Three catastrophic Special Grade spirits working under Kenjaku. Jogo’s volcanic firepower is the most overwhelming. All three are dispatched by Gojo in one of the anime’s most celebrated sequences.

Rika — Yuta Okkotsu’s childhood friend, killed young and transformed into a Special Grade cursed spirit through the intensity of his grief.
